Build a World

In this week, we start to enter into the VR world and build a “My World”. It is interesting for me because it is my first time to build a VR world. In Jesse’s class, our group wanted to make an App to help people maintain or improve their relationships. One section of our App is about the “UI Forest”. Therefore, I want to try to make a Tree World in this project.

I went to Unity Asset Store to find some materials that I can use in my world. I downloaded “Low Poly Cartoon Tree” in cgtrader website. In this materials, there are a lot of trees and brunches. Then, I wanted to add some seats in my tree world, so I downloaded seats file in Asset Store. I also find some flowers, mushrooms, rocks and a pavilion.

What I find difficult is that I have to reposition things every time I change an Angle. Everything needed to be on the same level and adjusted to the right size, and I spent a lot of time in this process.

I had a problem with the last step, I can’t use a First Person Controller. When I click play, the camera kept falling and I had no way to control the camera. I began to try to solve the problem, and in the process I found a mistake. I used a VR template to build my world, but should have used a 3D template, I’m not sure if that was the reason why I couldn’t use the camera. But by this time I had finished building my world, so I had to use the scene to “walk” into my world.
