Connecting the Dots
This is the first time I’ve been exposed to API, and the first time I’ve heard the term. It was also completely new to me, and I didn’t know where to start. In class, my classmates and I did an API mashup exercise in the break room. At that time, I had a preliminary understanding of API.
Problem:
It was the fall season recently and I saw a lot of people on Instagram taking beautiful autumn pictures. Some people also share the location of the place they have been to, and by locating it, we can find out where it is. Then It occurred to me that Instagram’s Share Position could be used to make a mashup with weather software. When people click on the ins location, they can see what the weather is like there. So for people’s travel plan, it will be a lot more convenient. You don’t have to go to Google Map to find the city name of the place, and then go to a web page or mobile app to check the weather. Instagram can see the weather directly.
Idea:
My idea is that you click into instagram to share your location, and then you can see the current weather (Figure 2). You click on the weather symbol, you can enter the phone’s built-in weather software, check the latest weather.
I’ve been working on the API for a long time, but I still don’t have a good understanding of how to write it. Now I have just written out my idea, but I hope I can communicate with the professor on Friday to push forward the progress of this assignment.
